Fifth Grade Summer Reading List 2009
I would like the children to choose two books from the following list to read over the summer. For one of the books, I would like them to do a written book report, and for the other, to be prepared to tell the class about it.
For the written book report, I would like a cover with the title and author, a picture that relates to the book, and their name. For the written part, I would like the title, author, setting, main characters, plot, conclusion, and why I liked the book. They may type it or write it longhand.
I would suggest that they take some notes as they read the book that they have chosen for the oral report. By doing this, they can read the book any time, and then go over their notes before they return in September.
The Sign of the Beaver Elizabeth George Speare
Beetles, Lightly Toasted Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Loser Jerry Spinelli
The Summer of the Swans Betsy Byars
Ben and Me Robert Lawson
The Incredible Journey Sheila Burnford
Anne of Green Gables L. M. Boston
Superfudge Judy Blume
Maniac Magee Jerry Spinelli
Hatchet Gary Paulsen
Shiloh Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
****Please review their times tables over the summer. It is very important that they have these mastered.
Enjoy reading the books. If you have any questions, you can go to the school website and email me.
Have a wonderful summer!!! Mrs. Cermignano
