Mrs. Chesnut

February 24, 2010

IOWA testing will begin on Monday, March 1 in grades 3-8 and will continue through Thursday, March 4.  The testing schedule varies by grade.  Grades 4 and 7 have the most comprehensive testing.  Please try and have children in school on time each day and avoid taking them out of school early for appointments.

Thursday, March 25 was scheduled as the spring Teacher In-service.  We will not participate in the scheduled In-service, therefore school will be open for students on that day.  This will also serve as a make up snow day.

Mrs. Shortencarrier and Mrs. Moore have begun reviewing student records as we prepare to have files ready for transfer in June.  If you receive a paper asking for missing documents or dates, I would ask that you please provide the information to the office so that completed files can be forwarded.

BGRCS Spotlight 5th Grade

“Fabulous Fifth Grade”

Although we have seen quite a bit of snow lately, Fifth grade has still been busy with a variety of things.

The children worked very hard preparing for our Mass on Feb. 5th. All of them did a very nice job reading, serving, presenting the gifts, and singing.

We have been practicing our letter writing skills and learning a lot from our new pen pals in Camden. Mrs. Mullins teaches Fourth Grade, and had asked if we would be their pen pals. The children really enjoy doing this and learning about other children.

In Science we are learning about fossils. The children shared their fossils and explanations to the class. Some of their Science Fair topics sound very interesting. I am looking forward to seeing their final models.

We have traveled to the Midwest in Social Studies. Many read their Black History  and President reports to the class. We even had a “musical accompaniment” by one student!

Learning fractions was challenging at times. We are moving on to decimals and ratio and proportion over the next few weeks. We will still review our fractions until they are mastered.

Reading Joshua’s Song has been fun. The children have learned a lot about Boston, the Kennedy family, and life in the early 1900s.

Congratulations to Jai McNair! Jai qualified for the “Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest” to be held   February 27th.Good luck! We will all be rooting for you!

Good breakfasts and plenty of rest for the Iowa’s that are the week of March 1st.

      Welcome Spring!!!!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT NURSE NEWS

Due to new regulations from the Health Department, Mrs. Moore must submit a daily report to the Salem County Health Department concerning absences and illnesses.  It is very important that you call in daily when your child is going to be absent and state the nature of the illness (i.e. symptoms).  The report has to include the number of absences daily and the symptoms each child is experiencing.  She DOES NOT disclose names.  The answering system is available for your convenience 24/7.  Please call 299-0400 option #4 for the Nurse's Office voicemail.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Works $ for $ - Need $100 of Acme gift cards, send in an order form and check for a $100.  Acme is a 4% profit, which means you receive $2 towards tuition credits and the school receives $2.  All % vary with each merchant and the Great Lakes website will let you know the %.

Orders can be sent in every day and orders are placed with Great Lakes every Thursday.  You will receive your order back the following Wed.

Scrip is not available in the office; however, if you need grocery (Shop Rite, Acme, Botto’s or Kohl’s) you may stop at St. Joe’s Rectory in Swedesboro or send the order in through school and it will be returned to you within 1-2 days.
